Postdoctoral Fellowship in State-Space Models for Marine Fish Productivity
Location: Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER), Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NL Canada
http://www.mi.mun.ca/departments/centreforfisheriesecosystemsresearch/
Salary: $45,000 CDN
Start Dates: January, 2014, for 15 months conditional on satisfactory performance evaluations, with possibility of extension.
Job Type: Postdoctoral Fellowship
Description: Understanding fish stocks and their productivity is the main focus of CFER. The postdoctoral fellow will assist in developing state-space statistical models of fish stock productivity (birth, growth, maturation and mortality rates), to be used in harvest strategy evaluations and quantifying management reference points. The models will be motivated from life-history theory and fit to long time-series of productivity measurements. Models will be implemented in ADMB, a free and a powerful software package for the development of state-of-the-art nonlinear statistical models.
The successful candidate will conduct research at CFER under the guidance of Dr. Noel Cadigan.
Requirements: Applicants are required to have a PhD with experience in statistical modelling and theoretical ecology with a preference for marine population dynamics.
Deadline: Until position is filled
Enclosures: Send a cover letter that summarizes your qualifications and includes the date of your graduation or anticipated graduation. It is important to also include a detailed CV and contact information of three references.
