Business and Research Manager - South Atlantic Environmental Research Institute

Job Purpose:
SAERI aspires to be a world renowned Research Institute and will, in due course, incorporate as a UK Company Limited by Guarantee and Registered Charity. We have identified the need for this Business and Research Manager post to heighten the Institute’s profile and to create the necessary procedures and mechanisms (mainly financial, legal and corporate) to enable SAERI to be ready to meet all the corporate and legal requirements of an incorporated charity. As such the post holder will play an integral part in the strategic and commercial development of the organisation.

A secondary role of the post will be to support business development and growth within SAERI’s expanding Environmental Consultancy Services. This post holder will be a significant driver in the development of these strategies. The post will have a hands-on role in researching, developing initiatives and project managing to develop and grow the organisation.

SAERI operates across the South Atlantic from the equator down to the ice in Antarctica. SAERI’s headquarters are based in the Falkland Islands and it aims to conduct world class research, teach students, and build capacity within and between the UK South Atlantic Overseas Territories (UK OTs). The institute’s remit includes the natural and physical sciences. Its mission is to advance environmental understanding in the South Atlantic through research excellence and innovative scientific leadership (www.south-atlantic-research.org<http://www.south-atlantic-research.org>).

Applicants should have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area or at least 10 years’ experience in a role at a similar level in a related field. Desirably, a Masters degree or equivalent in a relevant subject matter or a business management qualification e.g. MBA.

The package
• Basic salary starts from £38,645 per annum depending on qualifications and experience
• Airfares for the post holder at the beginning and end of contract, as well as mid-contract return flights
