Job description
PURPOSE OF JOB
Cefas is seeking to appoint an experienced scientist to join a dynamic and active, internationally respected team, that conducts and leads on research into the management and control of aquatic non-native invasive species. The job holder will aid in the development of the work area and policy advice, applying for and securing funding, managing and delivering contracts and producing peer reviewed literature

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To aid in the further development and delivery of the non-native invasive species programme of research and advice in Cefas.
Key work areas include:
• Aiding the strategic development of the non-native invasive species work area.
• Developing new business encompassing existing and novel work streams in relation to aquatic non-native invasive species. This will include identification of potential work opportunities, liaison with existing and potential new customers, writing and submitting successful proposals.
• Delivery and management of contracts.
• Providing policy advice to national and international governments, including contingency planning and rapid response.
• Writing scientific reports and publishing work in peer reviewed journals.
Cefas encourages development opportunities related to the job role. National and overseas travel is to be expected with the possibility of participating in fieldwork.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
A good first degree (or above) in a relevant discipline is essential. A PhD or equivalent experience in invasion biology is desirable.
Ideally you will have proven experience in applying for, and winning funding for scientific research. You will also have experience of initiating, conducting and developing scientific studies in relevant disciplines. You will also be expected to write scientific reports and publish literature on key aspects of the work area. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are therefore an essential requirement of the position. You will be expected to work effectively both independently and within multi-disciplinary international teams.
Desirably, you should be familiar with relevant aquatic non-native invasive species legislation/policies and have a good contact with individuals and organisations, nationally and internationally, working in this field.
