Following the instructions of FISH-ECOLOGY management for new members, a
breif introduction. I am part of a multidisciplinary group doing research
on the sustainable management of food and water resources.  Our focus is on
financially poor nations, where the need for such work is often greatest.
I specialise in fisheries and am particularly interested in fisheries
modelling and the effects of fisheries on the ecosystem.
 
I would be grateful if anyone could pass on information concerning blast
(dynamite) fishing.  I am aware of work done by ICLARM and others in the
Phillipines but have found no quantitative research from elsewhere. Is
blast fishing a widespread phenomenon?  There are reports that it occurred
in the Carribean,the east coast of Africa and Sri Lanka.  With a general
decline in the abundance of fish populations in many tropical reef areas,
it is probable that there is increasing pressure to use this efficient
fishing method.  Is it still used in these places and to what extent?
 
I am also after any published reviews on Indonesian fisheries.  Rather than
specific research on population dynamics, I am interested in general
descriptions of the development of fisheries and their management.
