For any questions regarding preservation techniques and standards,
consult the American Society of Icthyology and Herpetology's guide to
curatorial practices. I'm not certain, but I believe there might be a blurb
on this guide at the ASIH homepage.
 
My hunch is that after a year in the big freeze your specimens probably
won't serve as ideal type specimens.
