Throughout the summer, aggregations of Balistes capriscus can be
observed to occur in Shinnecock Bay, Long Island, New York. I
estimate some individuals to be about 30 cm in length.
Will these strays from the south return to the south in the fall?
The species has a very broad range and can be found (during the
summer) farther north than Long Island. Where within that range can
one find breeding populations? I assume this species does not breed
in Long Island waters. Where is the closest breeding and resident
population of Balistes capriscus?
