Anomalous numbers of gray triggerfish were observed during July and
August 1995 from Barnegat to Ocean City, NJ. External signs of breeding
were not reported, however. This species was rarely caught by recreational
anglers in southern NJ as far back as I can remember, the early 1960s. Last
years catches were truly anomalous as anglers commonly brought their
triggerfish catches home as a replacement for less abundant traditional species.
