Associate Professorship in Natural Philosophy and Science Studies

An associate professorship will become available at the; Center for
Philosophy of Nature and Science Studies of the Faculty of Natural Sciences
at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, as of 1 November 1996. The Center
is organised as a network of institutes under the Faculty of Natural
Sciences and has for the time being home address at the Niels Bohr
Institute, Blegdamsvej 17, 2100 Copenhagen, Denmark.

The successful candidate will function as center head and refer to the
=46aculty through the overseeing center board. He or she is expected to take
initiatives that will strengthen the development of the research
environment for science studies at the Faculty. It is expected that the
center in the future will be called on to provide research, teaching and
dissemination of results along with the development of the field of science
studies and the teaching at the Faculty, in close collaboration with the
various institutes of natural science. The successful candidate is
accordingly expected to possess qualifications in natural science, in
particular in biology, and is required to teach theory of science,
especially in in a biological context, foundational problems and world
views of natural science at all levels. As center head the successful
candidate will be responsible for all main activities, such as examination
and administration, and it is a condition for continued employment that the
candidate acquire necessary and sufficient language abilities in a period
of no more than two years. An associate professorship is a tenured position
presupposing qualifications at the level acquired during employment as
assistant professor. The selection committee will place emphasis on the
scientific qualifications of the candidate, but also put weight on the
candidate's teaching experience. If the applicant cannot document
sufficient teaching experience, the the continued employment will be
subject to a test period of one and a half years. The decision about
tenured employment will be made after a professional evaluation. The
position we be salaried under a continuing contract as agreed between the
Confederation of Professional Unions and the Ministry of Finance. The
annual salary depends on seniority at the most 343.852 DKK per year.
Besides that contributions to pension schemes will be paid.

The application must contain complete information about and documentation
of the applicant's scientific qualifications and teaching experience. A
complete publication list should be submitted with the application, and it
must be indicated which material the applicant considers most relevant for
the evaluation of his or her scientific and teaching qualifications. This
material must be submitted in 3 copies with the application. Material in
electronic form (diskettes, e-mail, etc) will not be accepted.The applicant
shall be required to provide further material that the selection committee
wishes to include the evaluation. The composition of the evaluation
committee and its entire report which must be considered confidential will
be sent to all applicants. Applications, marked L/12-96, should be sent to
the Faculty of Science, =D8ster Voldgade 3, DK-1350 Copenhagen K, Denmark,
and received no later than 23 September 1996 at 12 o'clock.
