The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science offers two-year positions
for research scholars with Ph.D. in hand (German scale of charges BAT IIa-O)
to begin spring 1997 in its new third research group for the following
fields:

- History of experimental practices and experimental cultures,
- Comparative cultural history of epistemic spaces, gestures, and objects,
- Historical pragmatics of theory and concept formation in the life sciences,

- History of twentieth century biomedical sciences (especially molecular
biology).

We also offer postdoc-fellowships for a two-year stay at the intitute for the
above fields. The stipend for applicants from abroad is 3200 DM per month.

Women candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Prerequisites: Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and research experience in the
history of science. Qualification being equal, precedence will be given to
candidates with disabilities.

Applications, which should include a curriculum vitae, a list of
publications, a brief outline (1500 words) of proposed research, a sample
text (chapter of dissertation or article) and two letters of recommendation
