I read many messages recently about fishery data bases and why there is
so much secrecy ?
I worked as a data collection field biologist for 7 years and a data analysis
for 6 years now and still, and I can see both sides of the pictures as well
as many of you do. I could never understand where a person wants to use a
public resource at no cost but cannot release fisheries information to help
sustain the fish resources. Most agencies responsible of fisheries dependent
data hide behind this confidentiality aspect that is so old for 21th century
science.
