THE INSTITUTE OF FRESHWATER ECOLOGY AND INLAND FISHERIES
ANNOUNCES A HEAD OF DEPARTMENT POSITION

The Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB)
is an
interdisciplinary, so-called Blue-List reasearch institute, funded
equally by the State of Berlin and the Federal Ministry of Education and
Research. It is located in a scenic district of Berlin, Germany.
The IGB investigates process-oriented various limnological
ecosystems
taking into consideration the whole biotic and abiotic interactions in
the water-bodies and their catchment areas. Fishery-ecology studies are
an integral part of the studies. A goal of research at IGB is to gain
further insight into ecosystem functioning applicable to other
freshwater bodies by mathematical modelling and - equally important -
with direct practical application, e.g. for rehabilitation or management
concepts.
The Institute for Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries is
seeking as
soon as possible a Visiting Scientist to head the Department of Fish
Breeding and Fish Pathology for 1.5 to 2 years’ period. The salary
equals roughly 60 T US$.
A substantial contribution in the following areas will be
expected:
· Research in IGB and teaching in the Agriculture and Horticulture
Faculty of Humboldt University in Berlin in the field of fish-breeding
and fish pathology with particular consideration of freshwater
ecological aspects. Teaching in English is very welcome.
· Concepts and methods for the optimization of freshwater management
resources directed at sustained environmental and resource-care
management in fisheries and aquaculture.
· Nutrition and reproduction biology of fish and the fish life-cycle
and/or
· Pathology and parasitology of fish.
We are looking for a qualified and creative scientist with the
ability
to cooperate closely with research groups in other departments of the
Institute as well as with outside cooperation partners, both within
Germany and overseas.
Applications with the customary documents, copies of five
publications
and an outline for a personal research program in the above-mentioned
