Greetings
Last time I was after marine crayfish for consumption using SCUBA I
was considering the survival of this prey after physical damage. In the
course of the hunt it is not uncommon to be left with varoius appendages
while the rest of the animal is left to scurry to safety. Of course I
try to minimise this by not attempting to catch animals obviously under
the size limit and attempting to be efficient in siezing them.

I was wondering whether there has been any work about the propensity of
Crays to infection and or ability to defend territory after this kind of
damage.

The Cray I was hunting is marine (Jasus edwardsi) and is reasonable
common in New Zealand waters.

Cheers

Perry Empson
