investigation of the demersal fish fauna of a 160 km super(2)
archipelago area in the northen Baltic proper was carried out by scuba
census technique. Thirty-four stations covering seaweed areas, shallow
soft bottoms with seagrass and pond weeds, and deeper, naked soft
bottoms down to a depth of 21 m were visited at all seasons. The
results are compared with those obtained by traditional gill-net

explained only 28% of the variance in catch per unit effort corrected
for gillnet selectivity and fish swimming speed. Visibility (measured
as Secchi disk depth) significantly decreased the likelyhood of fish
being caught in gill nets, while the effect of temperature was positive
