There is a tremendous amount of literature on fishery models. I assume
that you know this and have seen examples. Most of this fishery
modeling has its basis in mathematical modeling and seemingly the
computer implementations of these stick pretty much to the original
mathemetical formulations (for growth, reproduction, deaths etc), at
least in the general texts. Someone else may provide better sources
specifically for _computer_ modeling of fish populations. Most of the
texts are geared toward investigating fish populations, but all usually
cover the basic models and assumptions.
A good starting point might be the nicely done, fairly recent text:
Hilborn and Walters. 1992. Quantitative fisheries stock assessment.
Chapman and Hall.
also, Sparre and Venema. 1992. Introduction to tropical fish stock
asessment. FAO. present the basics of various fishery models.
A recent example of some of the interesting fishery problems that are
being investigated with models is: Goodyear. 1996. Minimum sizes for red
grouper: consequence of considering variable size at age. North American
Journal of fisheries Management. 16:505-511. This perhaps is the type
of thing that could be included in a detailed fishery management
simulation model.
I believe that several fishery simulation/game models have been written
in the past, but I do not have the specific references or sources.
Those I remember placed the user in the role of fishery manager with
capability for making decisions regarding fleet size, research funding,
agency staffing etc. The computer users section of the American
Fisheries Society should be able to provide help. Start checking at
