A position as research biologist is vacant at the Danish Institute for
Fisheries Research (DIFRES), Dept. of Inland Fisheries. At present the
position is time-limited to Dec. 31. 1997. The possibilities for prolonged
employment to a total of 3 years is good.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and advice related to lake fish and fisheries. One of the research
topics in 1997 will be the behavior and diet of perch (Perca fluviatilis) in
different types of lakes.
If the position is prolonged beyond 1997 other reseach duties as well as
advice to national and local authorities, fisheries organisations and privat
persons related to freshwater fish, fisheries and fisheries legislation will be
part of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CANDIDATE EVALUATION FACTORS:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. - degree in fisheries biology or a M.S. -
degree followed by documented research experience at the Ph.D. - level.
Candidates with documented experience in experimental work / design
with freshwater fish, statistics and good oral/written communication skills
will be preferred.
Extensive knowledge on lake ecology, predator/prey relationships and
population dynamics in lake fish is an advantage.
As advice and contact to local authoritis, anglers, landowners etc. often
will be to persons without foreign language skills candidates must acquire
the skill of oral and written communication in Danish within a period of time.
SALARY RANGE:
225,000 - 326,000 dkk/year

The Danish Institute for Fisheries Research is a research organisation
affiliated to the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fsiheries. It holds
ca. 250 employees in 5 departments in different parts of Denmark. The
department of Inland Fisheries holds ca. 25 employees and is situated in
Silkeborg in Mid-Jutland. DIFRES performs research and gives advice
concerning exploitation, conservation and management of the living
marine and fresh water resources. DIFRES also works with catch handling,
food processing and quality assurance in the fish industry.
