Fellow FISH-ECOLOGY Members,
I would like to distribute the following announcement for any students
interested in applying for an award to attend the annual meeting of the
American Fisheries Society in Monterey, California (August 25-29, 1997). I
have received a number of application requests, but the actual number of
applicants in actually very low at this time....well if anyone is interested
in more info.....
The Educational Section of the American Fisheries Society is proud to
announce the 1997 Annual Skinner Memorial Awards Competition. Over the
years, through this travel award, the AFS Education Section has provided a
number of qualified students the opportunity to attend the annual meeting of
the American Fisheries Society. By attending the annual meeting, a student
will experience the depth and breadth of the fisheries profession, as well
as have the opportunity to meet other students and professionals in a
comfortable and friendly setting. This year the annual meeting is in
Monterey, California from August 25-29.
The Skinner award is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. One
of our goals is to provide the opportunity to attend a professional society
meeting early in the student's career. We are particularly interested in
providing this opportunity to minority and women candidates. Please urge
your best and most promising students of aquatic resources to apply for this
opportunity.
This award covers up to $500 for travel and related expenses in attending
the annual meeting. The award is handled as reimbursement of expenses to
cover transportation, lodging, registration costs, and meals.
Applications are due May 15, 1997 and awards will be announced by July 1, 1997.
Thank you for your help.
SKINNER MEMORIAL AWARD
The John E. Skinner Memorial Fund was established in memory of John

Monterey, California, August 25-29.

is eligible to apply. Awardees are chosen by a committee of the AFS
