Hi all,
Keep your feet back on the ground. Salmon is a very old name given by our
European ancestors for that migratory fish called quite recently (L.1758)
by scientists Salmo salar, and still more recently by American people
(after the discovering of others migratory salmonids on the Pacific West
coast) atlantic salmon by contrast with those supposed Pacific salmon.
Whether Salmon belongs to the same genus as the Trout (Salmo trutta),
became brown trout because of American people, does not matter. If some
fish are neither Salmon nor Trout, these are all these species belonging to
other genera than Salmo (i.e Oncorhynchus, Salvelinus and so on).
Obviously, Atlantic salmon is not only a salmon, this is the Salmon.
