Subject: EUROFISH-L

Dear Colleague:

As from today I opened a new distribution list, called EUROFISH-L
and physically located on a machine at NRM running Listserv(TM)
8c. The practical service is provided by the Information
Technology Department of the NRM, and courtesy of Swedish
taxpayers.

The purpose of the list will be mainly:

(1) To provide a forum of contact between European ichthyologists
in matters related to European work conditions as scientists and
institutions, presentations of ongoing project, short notices of
new locality records, and other everyday matters of concern.

(2) To increase the speed and accessibility of mass
communication, such as job announcements and conference
circulars.

The list is NOT intended to be a research discussion forum.
Other lists, particularly TAXACOM and FISH-ECOLOGY, are already
successful in providing for open research discussion on
ichthyological research topics, and there are a variety of lists
such as CICHLID-L and ELASOMO-L to cater for particular taxa.
The closest match of EUROFISH-L that I can think of would be a
hybrid between NIA-Net and the ASIH list.

Every message sent to EUROFISH-L will be archived at the NRM WWW
archive, so anyone can read posted messages, but only members can
post. Anyone can become a member, however, and anyone, not only
Europeans interested in European ichthyology should take this
opportunity to stay informed.

I am sending this to a random group (those who happen to be in my
nickname directory!), and will not announce EUROFISH-L to other
lists. Please spread the word as you go, and feel very welcome
to place your name on the list. It will take a few days till the
first messages appear. I will post a notice as soon as
membership exceeds 50 (in 1-2 days).

The list is moderated in order to stop junk mail. I do not
expect any other language than English on the list.

To subscribe, please send a message with the only content:

Hope to see you on soon!

Best regards,

Sven O Kullander
