Here's what I tell my students:

Some salmon are trout and some trout are charr,
But some trout are salmon, adult or parr,
Whitefish are whitefish and ciscoes the same
And grayling are grayling, they have the right name.

It's very confusing, it's really a mess,
You can't tell by looking, you really must guess;
So next time you're tempted to call salmon trout,
Use name scientific, it's the only way out.
