Buongiorno everybody.
Here's a little list of info I got from you all, from FISH-ECOLOGY and ELASMO-L. Thank you all once again.
SOMALIA Whale sharks are very common on the horn of Africa off the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden/Indian Ocean during spring months. They move inshore to near the surf line when heavy plankton bloom occur.
PHILIPPINES Whale sharks are common in the Philippines too. They are hunted around the island Pamilacan, in the Visayas Group
GULF OF MEXICO, FLOWER GARDENS Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are regularly observed at the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (110 nm SW of Galveston, Texas) and surrounding waters from July to October.
BAHIA DE LOS ANGELES, GULF OF CALIFORNIA, MEXICO These sharks are seasonally present in the "Bahia de Los Angeles" area.
SOUTH FLORIDA, USA Some occasional (Spring?)reports of adults along the Keys and shallow nearshore eastern Gulf of Mexico waters.
SEA OF CORTEZ In May and in November
SEYCHELLES Large groups of all size whale sharks seen regularly round the northern offshore waters of the main island in the Seychelles (Mahe).
CHILE In the central zone where big plankton blooms have apperared in October the last few years. Several sharks sighted off the great island of Chiloe as well, which is interesting as the temps are quite cold.
BIBLIOGRAPHY An annotated bibliography on the whale shark, compiled by Fay H. Wolfson & G. Notarbartolo di Sciara is available on the web at this address: http://scilib.ucsd.edu/sio/indexes/whalshrk.html
Again thanks everybody.
Eleonora
