            Genetic Principles & Methods for Fisheries Managers

         North Central Division of the American Fisheries Society

The North Central Division of the American Fisheries Society in
conjunction with the Walleye, Centrarchid and Salmonid technical
committees is sponsoring a workshop on Genetic Principles and
Methods for Fisheries Managers.

Agenda:  The discipline of genetics as applied to natural
resource management has experienced rapid technical development
in recent years.  This workshop will be designed to provide
fisheries managers with technical information necessary to
interpret findings and recommendations from recent studies of
fish genetics and will cover management of both wild and hatchery
stocks.  The instructors are Anne Kapuscinski and Loren
Miller, University of Minnesota; Eric Hallerman, Virginia
Tech; Dave Philipp and Bob Fields, Illinois Natural History Survey;
Jeff Koppelman, Missouri Dept. of Conservation.

The Walleye, Centrarchid and Salmonid technical committees will be
meetings on July 29th, 1997.  The technical committees will have
a separate registration fee for their meetings.
(Note: Participation in technical committees is not required to
attend the workshop.)

Where:  Holiday Inn, LaCrosse, WI, USA.  Please call hotel directly
reserve your rooms (608) 784-9500.  Please ask for the rooms
reserved for the American Fisheries Society Conference to get the
reduced rate, $52.00/night.

Accessory events:  Arrive early and participate in the Tuesday
evening beer and pizza cruise on the Mississippi River.  Enjoy
the company of your fellow workshop participants.  The boat
departs at 5:00 PM.

Cost:  $30 for the workshop, includes breaks and lunch.
$20 for  the cruise, includes pizza, beer, soft drinks and a
cruise on the Mississippi River.
