Well, I am not so sure employers would just look at the number of
publications rather than the quality of the material. I may be
wrong but I, as a junior scientist, wouldn't just split a paper
into several pieces just for the sake of engrosing the numbers:
To come up with something new is a process and it requires a
certain volume of pages and if I split up the job into several
pieces I'd feel I was cheating. Or are we up to go for the 'To
be continued' as I, once, read in a symposium paper :-) ?.

Cheers,

    APS

] Why is this? Just look back at the fish ecology archives! A few weeks
] back we were discussing how to fatten up your resume so that you had
] more publications to impress potential employers.
]
] Don't write one comprehensive paper say the experts.... fatten your
] resume by making it into two, four or eight!
]
] The purpose of these publications is no longer the lofty goal of
] "communication of scientific information to colleagues", but rather
] (necessary) self promotion.
