Sport fishing charter boats are catching conger eels (Conger conger) over wrecks to the west of Guernsey. Last Sunday an elderly lady caught a conger which weighed 91.5 lb. gutted. The eel's total length was 88.25 inches. I was asked by a fisherman how old I thought the eel was. Christopher Moriarty in his book "Eels - a Natural and Unnatural History" writes that a conger eel kept in an aquarium grew to 40 kgs. in 5 1/2 years. Does someone know if this is the same for wild fish.

Can someone supply me with a table or an equation to translate gutted weight to whole weight for conger eels.

Thank you.
