                        Aquatic Biogeochemistry
                        Marine Biological Laboratory


The Ecosystems  Center  of  the  Marine  Biological Laboratory in
Woods Hole has funding  for  a  Postdoctoral  Research  Associate
position on a study of the Pan-Arctic Drainage Basin.

DUTIES:  The  position  will  involve  the  synthesis  of data on
organic matter and nutrient concentrations in Arctic rivers.  The
successful applicant will work  with  a  team of hydrologists and
ecosystem  scientists  to  develop   a   Geographic   Information
System-based model of fluxes from land to the Arctic Ocean.

EXPERIENCE:  The  candidate  must have a strong background in the
biogeochemistry of rivers,  statistics,  and  the ability to work
well in collaborative research.

DURATION OF POSITION: Initial funding is for one  year  beginning
10/1/97, with possible renewal for one additional year.

DEADLINE: Until a suitable candidate is identified.
