The following positions are currently available to qualified applicants
seeking

full time employment in fisheries research for fall 1997, and
April-December, 1998.

Current work focuses on both Atlantic and shortnose sturgeon in the
Hudson River.

Screening of applicants will begin Aug 11 and continue until all posts
are filled.

<bold>TEMPORARY FIELD ASSISTANTS, Fall 1997 & April-December 1998 -
HUDSON VALLEY

</bold>Three positions are available for applicants who have some

experience capturing fish, recording data, and operating boats. These
positions

are needed to conduct fieldwork for ongoing studies of Hudson River
sturgeon.

Primary duties include tracking of sonic tagged fish, gill netting,
trawling,

and gear maintenance.  Three positions will be available from Aug 15 to
Dec 1, 1997.

These positions will also be available beginning in April, 1998, with
preference

given to those hired in fall, 1997. Applicants currently residing in
the Hudson

Valley are particularly encouraged to apply.  Although these are
temporary positions,

all qualified applicants will also be considered for the position of

"Hudson River Coordinator" in 1998 (see job description below).

These positions are full time and pay $7-$8.50/hr depending on
applicant qualifications.



<bold>HUDSON RIVER RESEARCH COORDINATOR, 1998 - HUDSON VALLEY or
Ithaca

</bold>Based in Hudson Valley or Ithaca, post BS or post MS degree
research specialist.

Needed to assist with all Hudson River studies by conducting field

activities and managing project housing, laboratory, and office
facilities,

monitoring service arrangements, maintaining a custom-built research
trawler, and

organizing a wide variety of other equipment and light boats.
Preference will

be given to applicants with good mechanical skills and experience in at
least

two or more of the following:


        - trailering, operating, and maintaining small boats

        - sampling of fish using gill nets and trawls

        - repair and maintenance of various types of field equipment

          including outboard motors, sampling gear, etc.

        - sonic telemetry

        - supervision of fisheries research field crews


Funding on-line through 1998. This person will be required to conduct
fieldwork and

manage local demands for at least 3 studies in 1998.  All qualified
persons applying for

a positions as "temporary field assistant" will also be considered for
this post.
