Happy new year to all.
This discussion raises an issue that has perplexed me. Perhaps naively, I
am supposing that sinuosity is an index relating the "actual" distance
from A to B following the meanders of, say a stream, to the straight line
distance from A to B. If so, and forgetting about fractal complications
for now, it seems that one large meander or several smaller ones may
produce the same index value. If this is so, of what use is the measure?
If there is another means of measuring sinuosity that escapes this
problem I am interested to know of it.
