Opening for a Ph.D. candidate at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada
I am seeking a Ph.D. candidate to undertake a study of anadromy and
freshwater residency in brook charr (Salvelinus fontinalis) as
evolutionary-stable conditional reproductive tactics. Specific objectives
include comparing the fitness payoffs of the two tactics as well as
documenting the migration patterns of anadromous charr. The project is part
of a larger 4-year study to assess the role of competition between Atlantic
salmon and brook charr in determining the incidence of anadromy in brook
charr and to develop a management plan for sea-run charr in the Saguenay
region of Quebec. The study will be conducted at the field station of CIRSA
(Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche sur le Saumon Atlantique), located
on the Ste-Marguerite River, Sacre-Cœur-sur-fjord-du-Saguenay, Quebec. The
applicant will be registered for Ph.D. studies at Laval University in Quebec
City. Applicants with experience in the areas of life history theory, fish
population statistics, fish migration and tagging techniques as well as
sport fishery management are preferred. Knowledge of the French language or
willingness to learn is a prerequisite. This Ph.D. position will be
remunerated according to NSERC guidelines. Scholarship holders will receive
supplements to their awards.
