I would guess that one of the situations that this excerpt might be
referring to is the current problem of dinoflagellate blooms (Pfiesteria
piscicida) along portions of the eastern coast of the US. As you may
already be aware, some scientists feel that these blooms are at least
exacerbated by the effluent of poultry farms and processing plants making
its way into estuarine environments. Below is a brief compilation of some
