NONGAME AQUATICS RESOURCES BIOLOGIST III - GRADE 21
Fisheries Management Division
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A formal education equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in biology, zoology, or related field, plus three years experience in fisheries management or related field including one year in a leadership capacity. Other job related education including a Master's Degree and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:
Applicant will work under supervision and responsibilities will include: coordination of a statewide nongame aquatic species conservation program; must possess strong technical skills and expertise in the area of non-game threatened and endangered aquatic species; interacts with federal and other state agencies, the conservation community and the public in nongame species consultatory and information matters; identifies nongame aquatic research and management needs; assist Fisheries district biologist in non-game aquatics issues; designs, directs, consults or conducts surveys and assessments of nongame aquatic species; plans, organizes and supervises special contractual studies as needed; prepares budget requests and all necessary progress and final reports; reviews, edits and approves all related program draft reports and manuscripts submitted for publication; participates in special events, prepares news releases, magazine articles, slide presentations, and interpretive information for public understanding; and performs other duties as deemed necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS DESIRED:
Knowledge concerning state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines applicable to nongame aquatic resources in Arkansas; knowledge of principles and practices of organizational management (supervisory abilities, budgetary processes, and purchasing procedures); knowledge of game and fish laboratory and field survey equipment, techniques, and procedures; ability to operate and knowledge of computer programs; ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with agency staff, interested individuals, colleagues, personnel of other state and federal agencies and the general public; ability to analyze habitat improvement programs and recommend implementation methods or modifications; ability to make independent decisions and act quickly and decisively on the determined course of action; ability to plan, prepare, and present oral and written reports.
COMPENSATION: US$25,054 to $46,428 per year
