Duties:
> Participates in hiring workers. > Assigns work and evaluates performance. > Plans and develops work schedules. > Trains workers in fish-data collection and fish marking techniques. > Interviews anglers. > Collects fish by electrofishing, gillnetting, or trawling. > Operates fish traps to collect fish movement data. > Occasionally assists in enforcing fish and game laws. > Operates power boats. > Operates and maintains fish tagging and marking equipment.

Other combinations of related education/experience may also qualify.[PARA]* Because the test for this work is an evaluation of your job-related background, be sure to provide all related education and experience in the following areas to attain your highest score.
Incumbents will supervise work crews in the collection of biological data and/or perform difficult independent field collection duties involving data analysis, recording findings and making recommendations. Work involves walking several miles over rugged terrain and along stream banks, standing and working in cold water for up to five hours per shift, lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 60 pounds with occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances, working under water using snorkel equipment, and working in extreme weather conditions. Travel to remote locations for fish tagging, trapping, or sampling operations may be required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT 1. Do you possess a valid driver's license?
BACKGROUND. Typically the following knowledge and experience is gained through successful completion of college coursework in fish ecology, game fish management, ichthyology, or closely related areas and diversified work experience in areas related to creel census, fish research or management, bio aide, and/or fish hatchery work.
2. Describe how you gained good knowledge of the life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species. 3. Describe your experience: Please respond to both "3a" and "3b" below. a. identifying various fish species; b. trapping and tagging fish.
4. Describe how you gained some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically requires a class or seminar (more than one day) specifically covering supervisory practices, or leadwork experience that required work assignment, direction, and monitoring (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a period of approximately three months or more); or successful completion of a college-level personnel course.
DATA COLLECTION - You will interview anglers to collect fish harvest data; collect fish by electrofishing, gillnetting, and trawling; operate fish traps; measure and weigh fish; prepare biological specimens; use coded wire tags and freezebrands to mark fish; help enforce fish and game laws, and use a personal computer. EQUIPMENT OPERATION - You will be required to operate and maintain boats, fish tagging and marking equipment, and pickup trucks. Please respond to both "6a" and "6b" below. 6. Describe your experience: a. operating a boat and outboard motor. b. diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical equipment problems.
