Mr. Glazer,
a year-round trawling ban has been in place since August 1990 in the Gulf
of Castellammare (NW Sicily).
After four years the biomass of the total demersal fish assemblage had
increased 8 times (data from experimental trawl surveys).
If you are interested, I can send you a paper in Italian on the subject,
reporting the increase rates on a dozen target species.
Another paper is in progress.
