Familiar with hatchery production methods. Past experience in conducting experiments on improving hatchery techniques is desired.

Responsibilities: Coordinate, develop and implement research on the dietary nutrient requirements of shrimp in support of the five-year Tropical Aquaculture Feeds and Culture Development Project that is funded by USDA/ARS. In particular the successful candidate will be expected to undertake research activities so as to elucidate the essential amino acid, fatty acid, energy, mineral and vitamin requirements of shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) within both indoor laboratory and outdoor field conditions. Other responsibilities include: conduct chemical, statistical and interpretive analyses of research, and prepare results for submission to the Program Manager, and, where needed, incorporate results into reports and manuscripts for publication within peer-reviewed scientific journals. Coordinate implementation and assist subordinate technical staff in set-up and day-to-day management of assigned research tasks. Assist the Program Manager in the coordination and management of broad program areas including data management, report and proposal writing and editing, ordering of research materials and supplies, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager. Responsibilities: Coordination and development of statistical, economic and production system models in support of the five-year Tropical Aquaculture Feeds and Culture Development Project funded by USDA/ARS. In particular the successful candidate will be expected to integrate the results generated from the project from all research areas related to shrimp nutrition and feed development, refine experimental designs and hypotheses, simulate effects of various manipulations and prioritize research areas, including 1) the initiation of economic analyses by evaluating results from all research areas of the project as these become available, and the use of these analyses to refine objectives and experiments in all other research areas, 2) develop predictive models that will allow simulation of shrimp biological performance and within-pond processes in intensive shrimp farming, and 3) configure and parameterize a series of mathematical expressions describing within-pond processes. Other responsibilities include: conduct statistical and interpretive analyses of research, and prepare results for submission to the Program Manager, and, where needed, incorporate results into reports and manuscripts for publication within peer-reviewed scientific journals. Responsibilities: Coordinate, develop and implement research on the contribution and management of aquatic microorganisms within intensive shrimp farming systems in support of the five-year Tropical Aquaculture Feeds and Culture Development Project that is funded by USDA/ARS. In particular the successful candidate will be expected to undertake research activities so as to elucidate the contribution played by aquatic autotrophic and heterotrophic microorganisms within outdoor shrimp ponds in water/waste management and as a potential source of dietary nutrients for the farmed shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). In addition to the above tasks, the successful candidate would also be expected to conduct research on aspects related the development of techniques for monitoring the microbial contamination and safety of feed ingredients and compound aquafeeds used within the animal feed manufacturing industry, as well as studying the potential role of microorganisms within the gastrointestinal tract of cultured aquatic animals. Other responsibilities may include: interpretive analyses of research and incorporation of results into reports and manuscripts for publication within peer-reviewed scientific journals. Minimum qualifications:

Responsibilities: Participate in and help supervise the culling and tagging of hatchery-reared and wild-caught finfish fingerlings with coded wire tags (CWT), and transport and release to pre-selected field sites. Participate in and help supervise cast net, beach seine, gill net and fishing gear sampling to monitor recruitment success of tagged fish in nursery habitats. Participate in and help supervise fishermen interviews and creel census to obtain information on the contribution of hatchery raised fish to the fishery; identify and collect tagged fish and obtain samples from fishermen and commercial fish sellers. Participate in and help supervise extracting and decoding CWTs retrieved from cultured and wild-tagged finfish; perform stomach content extraction and analysis; enter data into computer for data processing. Participate in and help supervise hatchery and nursery culture of finfish, as required. Participate in and help supervise marine biological surveys using SCUBA.
Minimum qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in biology, fishery science or other related field desirable but not required. Work experience in some area of fisheries science.
