I'm an active member of the Instituto de LimnologĦa
Dr. Raul A. Ringuelet, working in lagunas of mid-argentinas
pampasic region. Our research work of these hidrologically
peculiar shallow lakes is orientated towards assessment and
management. Our application works relates to fishery assessment and
development and since these areas are of our concern, I would be
very interested in receiving back your comments and to know about
similar proyects in other parts of the world.
"Assessmente of the fisheries potential of Chascomus region, Buenos
Aires Argentina, for the territorial auditing of the lakes."
The task of research will be within framework of the
sustainable utilization of the fishery resources and will
include the evaluation of the impact of the human activities
(different fishing modalities).
The fishing potentials of the shallow lakes will be
explored to attempt to develop a classification of different
uses. This must necesarily include the an assessmente of
different and often conflicting modalities of fishery
development on the pejerrey.
It is expected to discriminate lakes (1)most suitable for
sports fishing, (2) more appropriate for commercial artesanal
fishing, (3) more adaptable for a new industrialized fishing
modality and (4) inept for mentioned practices, whose
usefulness will have to be sought in other areas.
The knowledge generated as of this project and transferred
to the local government will allow to accomplish an effective
management on an important part of their territory as are the
water bodies.
